Deciding which XenServer is right for you

One of the most valuable tools your business is likely to come up with is a virtual sever. In order to set one up you are going to need to decide on a number of things like what type of virtual server to use. If you have decided to go with XEN then the next step is to determine which XenServer is right for you. This decision is going to be largely determined by your needs and how big of a network you need to set up.

The biggest thing that you are going to want to look at when you are choosing a XenServer is the ease with which it can be installed. In some cases the installation process can be a very time consuming and frustrating experience. You are going to want to do some research and find out what kind of experience others have had with installing a particular XenServer so that you can pick one that you will be able to set up without too much difficulty. If you don't do this you may come to regret the choice that you have made.

The other big thing that you are going to want to look at when you are choosing a XenServer is ease of use. According to Web-Hosting-Advice.net, there are some that are quite easy to use and others that are not at all easy to use. In most cases it is simply a matter of learning how the new system works but most people find that things are easier if they stick to a system that they have experience with and are comfortable using. It will greatly reduce the learning curve and save you a lot of time and effort.

It also a good idea to make sure that the XenServer that you have chosen is going to be able to handle the task that you need it do. In general this is not that big of an issue since most of them can handle a network of any size but you should make sure that the one that you are using has been used on a network the same size as yours before you choose to use it. You really don't want to be the guy finding all of the problems that need to be solved.

In most cases it is best to go with a supported XenServer. Obviously you can save money if you go with an unsupported version but most people will find that the benefits of using a supported version outweigh the cost savings. However if you feel confident enough in your ability to handle setting up and running your virtual server on your own with no assistance and no updates from the software producer than that is definitely an option that you have. Just remember that if you spend a lot of extra time maintaining the unsupported software it may not provide the cost savings that you were expecting.
